About Bear Market News

Who We Are

Bear Market News is an independent digital publication based in Toronto, Canada, covering the intersection of technology, cryptocurrency and financial markets. We launched in 2023 with a simple mission: deliver real, factual, no-hype analysis to readers who are tired of clickbait financial media.

Our name is not a prediction — it is a commitment. Markets go up and markets go down. We believe honest coverage of the down cycles is just as valuable as celebrating the bull runs. When everyone else is screaming “to the moon,” we are the ones asking about fundamentals, risk management and valuation.

Our Mission

Bear Market News exists to bridge the gap between mainstream financial journalism and the rapidly evolving worlds of technology and digital assets. We produce long-form analysis, data-driven research and accessible explainers that help readers make informed decisions — whether they are retail investors, technology professionals or simply curious observers of the digital economy.

Our Values

  • Accuracy first. Every article is fact-checked against primary sources. We cite datasets, regulatory filings, on-chain data and company reports — not anonymous Twitter threads.
  • Independence. Bear Market News is editorially independent. We do not accept payment for coverage, and our editorial team has full control over what we publish and how we frame it. Sponsored content, when it appears, is clearly labelled.
  • Depth over speed. We would rather publish one well-researched piece a day than ten hot takes. Our typical article involves multiple source checks, data verification and a second editorial review before publication.
  • No hype, no panic. Whether covering a crypto rally or a tech stock crash, our tone remains analytical. We explain what happened, why it matters and what the data actually says — without the emotional language designed to drive clicks.

Editorial Team

Bear Market News is run by a small, experienced team of journalists and analysts:

Michael Chen — Editor-in-Chief

Michael spent twelve years covering technology and finance for major Canadian business publications before founding Bear Market News. He holds a Master of Journalism from Carleton University and is a CFA charterholder. Michael oversees all editorial operations and leads the publication’s long-form investigative work.

Sarah Okafor — Senior Technology Editor

Sarah is a former software engineer turned journalist. After five years writing for TechCrunch and The Verge, she joined Bear Market News in 2024 to lead our technology coverage. She specialises in AI, cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity.

David Tremblay — Markets Editor

David brings eighteen years of experience in institutional finance, having previously worked as an equity analyst at RBC Capital Markets. He leads our financial markets and macroeconomic coverage, with a focus on Canadian markets and cross-border analysis.

Priya Mehta — Crypto & Web3 Editor

Priya has been covering cryptocurrency and blockchain technology since 2017. Before joining Bear Market News, she was a senior reporter at CoinDesk and contributed to The Block. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto, specialising in monetary policy and digital currencies.

How We Work

Every article published on Bear Market News goes through a three-stage editorial process:

  1. Research and drafting. The author gathers primary data, conducts interviews where applicable and writes a first draft with full source attribution.
  2. Fact-checking. A second team member independently verifies every statistic, date, name and claim against the cited sources. If a claim cannot be verified, it is either removed or clearly labelled as unverified.
  3. Editorial review. The relevant section editor reviews for clarity, structure, bias and adherence to our editorial policy. The editor may request revisions, additional sourcing or clarifications before signing off on publication.

Corrections: if we publish something that turns out to be wrong, we correct it prominently at the top of the article with a dated correction note. Readers can report errors to [email protected].
